Garima Nahar's Intro to Product Management Portfolio Project
During the CareerFoundry Intro to Product Management Course, you’ll build out a job-ready project for your portfolio. Here is part of Garima’s project: a presentation about suggested improvements for a travel and location app called MakeYourMaps.
In Garima’s presentation, she outlines the business objectives, identifies the problem, and suggests solutions to make improvements. She also shares details on user personas, wireframes, and a product launch plan.
Introducing her project and talking about her experience studying with CareerFoundry, here’s what Garima had to share:
What inspired you to make a career change into this field?
I was already a product manager back in India actually, but all my knowledge in the field was learned ‘on the job’ and constrained by the working style of my organization. I wanted more of a holistic view of the field which would equip me to work for a broader set of organizations. So, although this is not a career change per se, I did want a formal & structured way to learn all about product management.
What did you enjoy most about the CareerFoundry Intro to Product Management Course?
I have a young child and moved continents recently, so I was on the lookout for a flexible, high-value course for myself. The Product Management Program at CareerFoundry suits me perfectly! I can progress at my own pace as per my personal commitments—sometimes three tasks in a week and sometimes none at all.
The progress bar on the landing page helps me have good visibility of where I stand and acts as a continuous motivator. I also love how detailed and granular the tutor’s feedback is.
What did you enjoy about creating your CareerFoundry portfolio project?
Creating my portfolio was a revelation for me. I am quite proud of the end result. Knowing beforehand that all my tasks are not just the usual academic submissions and would rather help me create something which I can showcase to future recruiters kept me focused on giving my best. I learned so many new industry standard skills and got to practice them as well, in a simulation kind of setting.
With regards to your new career and skills, what are your hopes for the future?
I’m now taking the immersion part of the program at CareerFoundry and I have high hopes for myself. When I now see job descriptions for the kind of work I want to do, I notice that I understand the keywords and the job expectations quite well. I already have some relevant experience in the field, but with the Product Management Program, I am confident that I will be able to showcase it in the language which the recruiters expect!
