Elizabeth Decker's Portfolio Project
Throughout the Data Analytics Program, students are asked to imagine themselves as analysts for various imaginary companies. Below is a selection of analyses that form Data Analytics Program student Elizabeth’s portfolio.
Hi Elizabeth! What inspired you to make a career change into data analytics?
I’ve always been interested in becoming a data analyst, but as a recent college graduate, I lacked the specialized skills employers were looking for. So, I was searching for something to give me an edge on my resume.
What are you enjoying most about the program?
The tutors and mentors are always willing to help with any questions I have. I also enjoy the variety and diversity of the topics we cover in the lessons.

The influenza analysis in particular was extremely interesting–especially given the current health crisis. The task was to forecast what states will need additional medical staff in preparation for flu season, in hopes to curb the next outbreak. I was also curious to see if the states needing extra medical staff support in my project would be similar to the states that were most impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. In the end, they were! The top six states that needed additional medical staff in my project are also the top six states that have had the most COVID-19 cases.
