Bonnie Lo's Portfolio Project
During the CareerFoundry UX Design Program, you’ll build out a job-ready portfolio. Here is a breakdown of graduate Bonnie’s portfolio project, Budget Spend, an all-in-one banking and budgeting app. If you’d like to check out her full portfolio, head to her website.
What inspired you to make a career change into this field?
In my previous role as a client care representative, I helped many customers resolve their issues with the service daily. I began to realize that providing a better user experience by improving the application would be more efficient and cost-effective than compensating for the problems. I felt like the level of help I could offer in that position was limited, and I wondered what I could do better. I came across a YouTube video by Christine Chun introducing UX design, which inspired me to make a career change in this field.
What did you enjoy most about the CareerFoundry UX Design Program?
Besides gaining more knowledge on how a product is built and designed, I enjoyed talking to my mentor and developing my understanding of the industry. Also, networking with students in the same shoes as me helped keep me accountable and productive!
What did you enjoy about creating your CareerFoundry portfolio project?
Building something from scratch is always challenging and has a sense of strong accomplishment. Although it would be more helpful for job hunting to have a project that solves real business problems, learning through creating an application makes the learning more fun and practical.
With regards to your new career and skills, what are your hopes for the future?
I would now like to know more about product strategy and management. I am interested to learn about the early process of how one product is built and how a designer should look at the bigger picture, in order to design for long-term growth instead of solving one problem.
